This job was a full re-roof on a house in Bournemouth. It took 4 days and was finished on 5 November 2026. The old timber was rotting and the felt was completely worn away. We fitted new Welsh slates on new breathable membrane and new treated battens, and finished the roof with a new dry ridge system. The photographs below were sent in by our team from the job.

Scaffold up at the house

Scaffold up round the house, with our liveried pickup and tipper outside. Under the old roof covering, the timber was rotting and the felt was completely worn away. Once felt has worn through, any rain that gets past the slates runs straight onto the timbers, which is why a roof in this state needs stripping rather than patching.

New Welsh slates

New Welsh slates laid in straight courses over new breathable membrane and new treated battens. A breathable membrane keeps wind-driven rain out while letting moisture vapour escape from the loft, which helps keep the roof space dry. Treated battens resist rot, and Welsh slate is a natural slate that has been used on British roofs for generations. The roof was then finished with a new dry ridge system, shown at the top of this page: a dry ridge is fixed mechanically with clips and seals instead of being bedded in mortar, so there is no mortar along the ridge to crack and wash out over the years.
